Proverbs 7:1-27

Chapter 7
1 Son, keep my sayings and treasure my commandments within you. 2 Keep my commandments and live, and my Torah like the pupil of your eyes. 3 Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your close friend. 5 to keep you from a foreign woman, from the foreigner who has made her words smooth. 6 For from the window of my house, I looked out through my lattices. 7 I saw among the simpletons; I discerned among the sons a youth lacking heart. 8 He passed through the market near the corner, and on the way to her house he marched. 9 At twilight, in the evening of the day, at the pupil of the night and gloom. 10 And behold, a woman meets him, dressed as a harlot, a harlot with a guarded heart. 11 She is clamorous and rebellious in her house—her feet do not dwell at home. 12 Now in the street, now in the squares, she lies in wait beside every corner. 13 She seized him and kissed him; she pressed her bold face to him, and she said to him: 14 "My peace offerings are upon me today; I have fulfilled my vows." 15 Therefore I went out to meet you, to seek your face, and I found you. 16 With carpets I have covered my bed, with panels of Egypt. 17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. 18 Come, let us take pleasure in breasts until morning; let us frolic in loves. 19 For the man is not in his house; he has gone on a journey far away. 20 He has taken a bag of silver in his hand; he will come home at the day appointed. 21 She inclined him with much; she took him with smoothness. With her lips she seduced him. 22 He suddenly goes after her like an ox to the slaughterer, and like a shackle to discipline a fool. 23 until an arrow pierces his liver, like a swift bird to a snare, and he does not know that it is in his nephesh. 24 And now, sons, hear me and pay attention to the sayings of my mouth. 25 Do not let your heart turn toward her ways; do not stray into her paths. 26 For she has caused many to fall by profaning them, and she has slain all the mighty. 27 Her ways descend to the chambers of Death, her house of Saul.
